Welcome to Social and Cultural Studies

The School of Social and Cultural Studies is one of three Schools in the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences at The University of Western Australia, in the city of Perth.

Social and Cultural Studies is the second-largest teaching School at UWA, and consists of the Discipline Groups:

• Anthropology and Sociology
• Archaeology
• Asian Studies
• Communication Studies
• English and Cultural Studies
• Women's Studies
• Political Science and International Relations
• Social Work and Social Policy

The School offers both undergraduate and postgraduate (coursework and research) programs.

The School is actively involved in research, featuring several active research groups and centres:

• Centre for Muslim States and Societies
• Centre for Vulnerable Children and Families
• Eureka Archaeological Research and Consulting
• Westerly Centre

Congratulations to Rachel Hains-Wesson, who has been awarded a PSA Postgraduate Travel Award.

The School would like to congratulate Rosalie Dwyer, who has been awarded Social Worker of the Year.

The School of Social and Cultural Studies has won 8 Graduate Teaching internships for 2009; and three China Scholarships (for the first time).
