Welcome to Social and Cultural Studies

The School of Social and Cultural Studies is one of three Schools in the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences at The University of Western Australia, in the city of Perth.

Social and Cultural Studies is the second-largest teaching School at UWA, and consists of the Discipline Groups:

• Anthropology and Sociology
• Archaeology
• Asian Studies
• Communication Studies
• English and Cultural Studies
• Women's Studies
• Political Science and International Relations
• Social Work and Social Policy

The School offers both undergraduate and postgraduate (coursework and research) programs.

The School is actively involved in research, featuring several active research groups and centres:

• Centre for Anthropological Research
• Centre for Muslim States and Societies
• Centre for Vulnerable Children and Families
• Eureka Archaeological Research and Consulting
• Westerly Centre

Congratulations to Prof. Dennis Haskell for being selected by the Carrick Institute to receive Citations for Outstanding Contributions to Student Learning

Congratulations to Brenda Walker, whose novel The Wing of Night has won the Asher Literary Award, worth $10,000.

Congratulations to Caitlin McGuinness, who was awarded a prestigious Student Scholarship by the International Association for the Study of Irish Literature at their recent conference in Dublin.
